Face Junky – Put Your Best Face Forward For The New Year

There are a lot of cosmetic stores, and a lot of stores that sell cosmetics. They may not seem like they are different than a cosmetic boutique, but they are. A cosmetics boutique is a small store dedicated to selling you what’s best for your face and your skin. They are not just trying to sell you the most expensive bronzer or the priciest lip-gloss.

Face Junky is that boutique. They are all about helping clients discover what is best for them and their skin tone, type, and facial structure.

Face Junky is a fabulous place if you want an intimate experience. This cool shop is something that young girls, men and women can enjoy.  Two ambitious women (Hope Finch and Debbie Deiger) took a leap of faith and created an atmosphere where patrons can receive personal consultations and customized products that fit YOUR needs.  Ever wanted to try a new cosmetic product at the mall but you didn’t want everyone looking at you? Face Junky has thoughtfully created private rooms where you can go in looking your worst and leave looking and feeling your best.

Lisa:

What really made this place stand out, for me, was the staff. Debbie, one of the owners, wasn’t just an owner who sat back and watched… she had researched every product in the building, knew all about the creators of the products, even met some of them. She had gone to classes and traveled to be involved in every aspect of the business. She knew all there was to know about every bottle of foundation or pack of eye shadow in that store.

Dara was the other person we met that day. She is their full time resident make-up artist. More than the fancy make-up and the beautiful displays, she was my favorite. What good is make-up if you don’t apply it right? What good is owning dark eye shadow if you can’t make a smoky eye?! Well she has the knowledge to help you do anything you want to your face. She knows what make up goes with what facial structure and how to align it so it makes your eyes look bigger, smaller, brighter, darker, sexier, anything you can imagine. In my opinion, make-up stores are no good unless there is someone who can help you purchase and apply the right things for you. Face Junky was all of that and more. I was completely pleased with our visit and will definitely be going back.

Yiesha:

The coolest thing about Face Junky is that you can’t find their products at every retail store. If you like unique, custom and high quality products Face Junky is the place to go.  I also loved Face Junky’s menu of party options! I’m always looking for different spots to have fun events and this is a perfect place for a Girls Night Out, Princess Party, a benefit, etc.

One product I really loved (bought some for stocking stuffers) is the Poo Pourri spray.  If you have a loved one that doesn’t care where they go potty (a friend’s house, restaurant, public facility), this natural spray will cut bathroom odors.  Poo Pourri is small enough to fit in your purse, car, etc.  Face Junky has created a yummy line of candles! The candle smells so good I don’t want to burn it but I love the scent.  Dara, Face Junky makeup artist, was very nice, informative and personable.  Did you know that sleeping with makeup ages your skin by seven days?  Well if you’re like me I have no interest in getting older sooner. Dara was full of insight and tips…she’s very engaging!

In closing I just want to say that I admire Hope and Debbie for bringing such a cool boutique to the area.  When Debbie gave us our tour you could tell that she was sincerely happy we were there and she was so excited to share all the cool products in her store.  When you have passion for something it’s contagious and I caught the Face Junky bug.  It’s important to support small business but it makes it easier for someone to love your products when we can see that you love what you are providing.  I ask that you support these awesome ladies today…call, fan their page, visit and book a party.  Send them some Local Love and try a new look or regimen just for the fun of it.  #FJF (Face Junky Fan)

Michelle:

When life is hectic and all you want is some papering, head on over to Face junky! I was impressed with the variety of upscale products that these lovely ladies had to offer. Who would not love a chic stylish shop that caters to every women’s needs from nails to lips and moisturizing to fragrant candles?!

I even found some fun stuff for my daughter. Jayme’s smoky eyes rocked and the expertise they had with skin types and colors was amazing! I can’t imagine buying makeup anywhere else! For your special day or just because let face junky help you look and feel beautiful!

Jen:

I really didn’t have any expectations upon arriving at Face Junky. I wasn’t really sure what to expect. The appearance outside was a neat old building in the historical downtown Perrysburg. I love all of these buildings. They have such character. Once you step foot inside it is decorated so fashionably: Pink/Black and fancy make-up stations. Not a large crowd as you would find in department stores and music was playing at a reasonable sound…okay, now I am sounding old!

The owners, Hope Finch and Debbie Deiger, are friends with a passion for cosmetics and making women look beautiful. Hope unfortunately was unable to be there, but Debbie gave us a tour of the store front and the products. She was so helpful and knowledgeable; you could truly tell that this was a passion of hers.

Skin is our biggest organ, so it is important to take care of it! Face Junky is first and foremost a cosmetics retail store with products not found at other boutiques and stores in the region. It is a place to come and play with new makeup trends and styles as well as a place to develop your own classic look.

Of course I had to make a purchase!!! I chose the two products by Exuviance, the hydrating eye complex and CoverBlend Multi-Function Concealer. Yes folks, I am attempting to cover up those black circles from lack of sleep! I LOVE both products and had a fantastic experience.

Jayme:

I had a photo shoot later in the day so I wanted to experience what it would be like to have one of their makeup artists do my makeup. I was so impressed! Dara was perfection. She listened to my needs and the colors that I like and she made it work.

She also gave me some great tips for my skin, such as using a facial scrub to help with the dry skin that I was starting to experience from the weather changing. I was concerned that a scrub would irritate my skin or make me break out, but I am happy to say that ever since I started using a facial scrub my skin has made a huge improvement.

Dara has such an engaging personality! Debbie is also such a warm person with such a friendly disposition. Walking into Face Junky makes me feel like I am home! I have never felt so comfortable getting a makeover. I almost didn’t want to leave.

Face Junky is located at 123 Louisiana Ave, Perrysburg, OH 43551.

Kids and Technology

We recently got a question from one of our readers and we thought it would make a great post. Please leave comments so Katie can read all of your thoughts! If there is ever something you’d like us to post about feel free to let us know!

Here is what Katie had to say:

Last year my daughter asked me when she could get her own phone. I was floored when she followed the question by telling me that she wanted to text her friends…and even more shocked to find out that a few of her friends had phones. Oh, did I mention she was 7 and in 2nd grade at the time? I mean…really!?!?

I hadn’t imagined that I would have to even think about the phone thing for a couple more years…at least!

I simply told her that she was not old enough to have a phone or the responsibility that comes with having a phone. Then when she tried to play the “but so-and-so has one”…I gave my usual reply…”yes, and if I were her mother she wouldn’t have one either!”

Maybe I am “behind the times” but in my opinion a 7yr old has no business having a phone or texting her friends! There is way too much trouble that can happen! In fact…one of her friends got in trouble for texting a mean message to another using her parent’s phone. Proof enough to me that they are not old enough to be texting!

Then recently my 6yr old son asked me if he could have a facebook page. I know of a few of his friends who have a page…but they only use it to play games and their moms have the password so it’s not something they can access on their own. This is not something I will allow him to do yet. There is just something that doesn’t set well with me about anyone not at least in high school having a page…. and when my kids are in High School I will have their passwords and full access to their accounts!

I realize that we are in the age of technology but I feel my main job as a mother (of four) is to teach and protect my children. I am not a mom who freaks out easily…I tend to be pretty laid back…but this is a topic that has me pondering. What is the right age for a child to have a phone? Facebook? What limitations and restrictions do you set?

I know how I feel and I plan to stick with it. My kids at the moment… have no business having any of these either…but I’m very curious at what other moms out there think!

Lisa, the youngest of The Social Parent Network, is the ultra-optimistic soon to be mother of 2. She is the co-creator of  Moms In Heels and enjoys sharing her spontaneous & generally embarrassing moments with her readers. People often get annoyed with her because she lacks the ability to make any type of decision but its just part of her laid back personality. If you want to hear for yourself you can listen to Moms In Heels live every Wednesday on the Andrew Z In The Morning radio show. Aside from all that, Lisa tries to encourage other women to make time for themselves, I mean let’s be honest, all you really need is a little mascara & a pair of stilettos :)

Just Do It Ladies

You know, “bucket” list sounds like you’re close to death so I’ve decided to call it a “Just Do It” list…only being in my 30s it seems much more appropriate.

This Wednesday I’m off to Montego Bay, Jamaica…a place where I can veg out and relax.  Being born in December hasn’t been so great since everyone is excited for Christmas.  Let’s not forget all the combined gifts (Christmas/Birthday) and guests not showing up to your parties due to the bad weather.  Last year me and my girlfriends (also with December birthdays) decided to go somewhere warm in December and make it a girls weekend.  It’s pretty much our excuse to be healed from our childhood birthdays that were filled with snowy disappointments.

Vegas was awesome last year and this year we were suppose to do Hawaii. Unfortunately life happened and my friends started dropping like flies on the commitment to go.  After everyone pretty much opted not to go I reminded myself of an exercise we did while in Vegas. We made a “Just Do It” list and we listed all the things we wanted to do and accomplish before we croaked.  Well one of my dreams was to travel somewhere by myself and see if I could have a good time with my adult self.  This opportunity has come sooner than I expected but life is short so why wait right?

Teri Hatcher, an actress on Desperate Housewives, wrote a book a few years ago called, “Burnt Toast: And Other Philosophies of Life.  It basically talks about how women too often take the leftovers for themselves.  Well that’s definitely me and a lot of women I know.  Everything seems to come before us most of the time…our profession, our kids, material items, etc.  I wanted to do something for me that didn’t involve planning a meeting or play date.  I actually forgot what “toast” tasted like since I’ve been munching on the burnt stuff for so long!

As women we have drunk the foolish Kool-Aid and been made to believe that taking time for ourselves is somewhat selfish.  Great moms are those that are there 24/7 for their families…WT??  I’ve tried that and that has left me depleted, unfulfilled and exhausted! So instead of being on a soap box complaining I’ve decided to do this for me which ultimately benefits everyone.

I’m learning as I get older if you are not whole you cannot be a help to anyone.  Physically, emotionally and spiritually I have a desire to be better and hopefully this experience will allow me to be still, seek peace and get back to the simplicity of life.  This might not be the route that you have to take but this is what I’m going to do. I’m nervous, excited and anticipating new experiences.  I guess you could call it my EAT, PRAY, LOVE experience condensed in 5 days.

These are the things I hope to work on while I’m there:

1)      Learn how to say NO

2)     Motivate myself to exercise , I feel so much better when I’ve worked out

3)     Utilize my friendships and be totally honest…stop living like everything is ok when it’s not.

4)     Be happy with where I am in life right now as I actively change (weight, prayer life, business, etc)

5)     Stop apologizing about who I’m called to be….I just need to let go and walk in it.

So if you had a “Just Do It” list what would be on it? What would you do? Where would you go? I actually have no plans when I get there.  I usually plan everything but I’m going to try and go with the flow.  I’m taking 3 books; I hope to finish at least one.  I’m taking:

1) Steve Jobs’ book (an early birthday/Christmas gift)

Steve Jobs

2) Chelsea Handler’s My Horizontal Life

3) Terry McMillan’s Getting to Happy.

Getting To Happy

I encourage you to do something for you one of these days before the year ends. It doesn’t have to be Jamaica but I hope it’s somewhere where you can peel off some layers, have fun and get some peace of mind! Life is short, make time for YOU and JUST DO IT! #singingHappyBirthdaytome

Have A Less Stressful Holiday Season

Women often feel the most pressure to plan, shop, cook, decorate and coordinate the seasonal festivities. We try to do too much, for too many friends and family, in too little time. There are good health reasons to avoid holiday stress. This season holiday stress doesn’t have to be part of your holidays. Taking positive actions now to plan the upcoming season will increase the enjoyment of a beautiful time of year. Here are some things to keep in mind…

  • Start planning early
  • Determine who will help, and delegate
  • Cook ahead
  • Limit the events you attend
  • Decorate gradually
  • Shop early and off times
  • Don’t forget your workout or “me time”
  • Get enough sleep
  • Eat health balanced meals
  • Enjoy!

As a busy mom with 3 little ones and a fulltime job I can sympathize with the stressed out mommy! The holidays are jam packed with “to do’s” and not enough fun! This year I have made a promise to myself to slow down, smell the gingerbread  and enjoy the holiday  with my family! How do you plan to enjoy this holiday with your family?

MOMS INSPIRE, SHARE AND SHOWCASE AREA TRENDS

Toledo, OH, November 10, 2011 – Inspire, showcase, encourage and share are the key words for the new group formed by six moms that felt their community needed a collective voice.  The Social Parent Network will offer engaging conversations that will showcase trends, events and businesses.

SPN (Social Parent Network) thought that it would be really cool for women in our area to come and together and just do what we as women do best…share.  These moms initially met through their other social networks that include blogs, events and their own businesses.  They began meeting once a month just to encourage each other in business, sharing contacts and brainstorming ways they could be a resource to their community.

“We are a group of six moms coming together to promote and showcase area happenings and trends. Our mission is to share our real opinions as we discover various products, places, and trends that are girlfriend, date night and family friendly!”

The Social Parent Network is diverse in their backgrounds, family makeup and their views. With this group, we are sure that there will be interesting topics, reviews and discussions.  The Social Parent Network can be viewed on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and thesocialparentnetwork.com.

Their very first review will be a new cosmetic boutique called Face Junky in Perrysburg, OH.  Face Junky has invited them to try out some cool products and they can’t wait to support this new area business!
